Now more than ever, people are recogĀnizing that yoga practice is not just for young and thin bodies. With an emphasis on health and relaxation, Meera has developed a unique yoga program for larger individuals. She begins with an explanation of what yoga is, the benefits it offers, and how it can fit into anyone’s life. She cautions big yogis to be kind to their body, to stay relaxed, and feel invigorated without straining.
Part two offers more than 40 postures specifically designed to work with larger bodies. Meera explains the benefits of the postures and provides step-by-step instructions along with photos of her bodacious, curvy self, demonstrating the postures.
Meera has yoga in her blood. In the section on the history of yoga, she tells how her great-grandmother had attended the Parliament of Religions conference in 1893 where Swami Vivekananda spoke to a captive audience on the steps of what is now the Art Institute of Chicago. A few summers ago she uncovered the program from the event at the bottom of a trunk at the family’s summer cottage!
Thank you, Meera, for writing this book.
